Dry-season adventures

Showers, green views and festive escapes

Generally a favourable climbing window, with warmer conditions than the middle of the year on some parts of the mountain. These months often suit a climb followed by a calving safari. Snow, clear skies and quiet trails are not guaranteed.

Early March can be an option, but rain risk increases as the long-rain season approaches. Discuss exact dates and route choice with our team.

The main dry-season climbing window. July–September are especially popular and can be busy. Cold nights, strong winds and freezing summit temperatures remain possible.

Wetter conditions can mean muddy lower trails, damp equipment and reduced visibility. Climbs may still operate, but require suitable preparation and greater flexibility.

What is the best month for a Kilimanjaro–safari combination?

January–February can combine climbing with southern Serengeti calving. July–September can combine climbing with dry-season safaris and northern migration viewing. Your priorities determine the best fit.

Are river crossings guaranteed?

No. Migration movements and crossings depend on wildlife behaviour and environmental conditions.

Can I climb in the rainy season?

Climbs may operate, but wetter conditions require suitable equipment, flexibility and discussion with our team.

Are full-moon dates group departure dates?

No. They are summit-planning reference dates. Ask us for confirmed departures or a private itinerary.

Will it snow at the summit?

Snow and ice conditions vary. No month guarantees fresh snow.

Your 2027 Tanzania Adventure Calendar

Tanzania offers something special throughout the year. The best time depends on what brings you here: climbing Kilimanjaro, following the migration, enjoying quieter parks or slowing down beside the Indian Ocean.

Kilimanjaro

Best time to climb

Kilimanjaro.

Kilimanjaro can be climbed year-round, but some windows suit a first climb better than others. Cold, wind and freezing summit temperatures are possible in every season.

Full-moon summits

Kilimanjaro full-moon

summit calendar — 2027.

A bright moon can add atmosphere to summit night, illuminating the mountain when skies are clear. These are astronomical full-moon dates in Tanzania local time, not confirmed group departures.

The nights around these dates can also offer substantial moonlight. We plan your mountain start date around your route and intended summit morning. Arrival and briefing days are additional.

Full-moon date (2027)

Bring a headlamp and spare power even on a full-moon climb. Cloud, terrain and weather affect visibility. Moonlight does not replace essential equipment.

Full-moon periods can attract more climbers. Ask about route choice and availability.

Zanzibar

Finish with a little

Indian Ocean time.

Zanzibar is a natural extension to a mountain climb or safari. June–October and January–February are commonly favourable beach windows. April–May is typically wetter, while November–December can bring short rains.

Choose your coast and activities carefully: tides, wind and sea conditions influence swimming, snorkelling, diving and boat excursions. A month with good beach weather does not guarantee ideal conditions for every marine activity.

Culture

Add a little rhythm

to your itinerary.

Sauti za Busara is announced for 19–21 March 2027 in Stone Town, Zanzibar. Combine live music and cultural exploration with your Tanzania journey.

Dates and programmes can change. Confirm tickets and the latest organiser information before booking travel around the festival.
